New Smyrna Beach’s City Commission OKs two new developments

New Smyrna Beach’s City Commission OKs two new developments Tuesday night – the first being a 253 unit apartment complex on the southwest corner of Glencoe Road and State Road 44; and the second being a new 745 lot subdivision known as Shell Point Colony which will be located being Venetian Bay and I-95.

According to the Daytona Beach News Journal, one commissioner at the start of the meeting “proposed a four-month moratorium on development at State Road 44.” Whether that will be a topic in an upcoming meeting is yet to be seen.

New Smyrna Beach Canal Street Car Show to continue on

After being a monthly event on Canal Street for over 23 years, there was concern across social media that the car show may end. The City of New Smyrna Beach recently made the event organizers aware that they would have to start paying for police and fire safety. This concerned the event organizer, Pat Teehan as he said there is no way he could afford those fees. After meeting with New Smyrna Beach City Officials, the fees were eventually waived in an agreement with all parties involved and the car show will continue on.

I recommend all residents and visitors give the car show a try and experience the atmosphere. It is a great family event and falls on the second Saturday of every month.

Farmton development moving forward beginning in Edgewater

A development known as Farmton that has been in the works for a number of years is moving forward with plans starting in Edgewater off of Indian River Boulevard.

According to the Hometown News article, 880 acres will be future home to a development known as Deering Park Center with 4,692 homes, retail, public use, and a school.

Future plans also include widening Maytown Road from Osteen to I-95 as the development will eventually span from Edgewater in Volusia County to Brevard County.

City of New Smyrna Beach to consider $50m Marina project

The proposed development off of N. Causeway in New Smyrna Beach calls for a hotel, retail, restaurant, marina, and three separate four-story buildings to house dry rack boat storage.
