Traffic study recommends roundabout at Pioneer Trail and Tomoka Farms Road (SR 415) intersection

County Council will review a traffic study at their 10/1/2019 meeting that recommends a roundabout be installed at the intersection of Tomoka Farms Road (State Road 415) and Pioneer Trail in New Smyrna Beach.

Dollar General store coming to Samsula?

The County of Volusia’s Development Review Committee will be discussing plans for a new Dollar General store near the State Road 44 and SR 415 (Tomoka Farms Road) intersection in the Samsula/New Smyrna Beach area on November 15, 2017 at 9:00am.

Two items are on the DRC agenda for the proposed aforementioned development (https://www.volusia.org/core/fileparse.php/5888/urlt/111517StaffReviewAgenda.pdf)

The first being an overall development plan to divide the subject 11.4 acre parcel into a two lot commercial development (2018-S-ODP-0025).

The second item up for the DRC’s review and discussion is a 9,100 square foot retail building (Dollar General) on 1.54 acres of the 11.4 acre parcel (2018-F-FSP-0023).

I sent an email to the County’s planning department inquiring if plans are available for review but have yet to hear back. An aerial photo of the proposed location is above.

With the City of New Smyrna Beach expanding further west, what are your thoughts on new commercial development in the rural Samsula community?

UPDATE – November 6, 2017

A copy of a survey was obtained from the County of Volusia showing the proposed location just west of the existing gas station on State Road 44.
